How Do I?
Setting Up a Project for a LAN-based Exam
Rationale:
Drive letter assignments will vary across machines on a LAN. If a particular participant's
machine has mapped the test machine's drive to a different letter, then this participant's
test session will be unable to locate the associated files, such as a scores file,
of the online LAN exam - this will prevent the participant from being able to take
the LAN-based exam.
However, if the associated files are referenced in the universal naming convention
(UNC), then regardless of the mapped drive letters, all participants' machines will
be able to locate the necessary associated files to run the LAN-based exam.
Procedure:
The easiest way to ensure that associated files are referenced in the UNC is to
establish Default (UNC) Directories in the Projects Window, as demonstrated below:
The UNC format will specify the machinename (e.g., Eric), followed by the file path
of the folder (e.g., LXRData).
You can use the Browse button to browse for the machine in Network Neighborhood,
and then to browse for the folder on the machine.
By setting up the Default (UNC) Directories necessary for LAN-based testing (i.e.,
Scores, Grading Table, Students, Headers, Online) you can let LXRTEST correctly
handle referencing of associated files from the start - even before you build your
LAN-based exam.
